EXPLORE DESIGN (ED) is North America’s First Design Education Fair for Youth.
We are pleased to report that ED ‘08, held on Oct 1+ 2, was a huge success on all counts. We saw just over 5,000 students, teachers and parents over the 2 days. There were 50 media hits. Over 50 exhibitors joined us from across North America, and over 35 seminars, keynote presentations and workshops were held.
The 2009 fair dates will be Wednesday October 14 + Thursday October 15.
ED is a consortium of educational institutions, associations and professional group will provide 2 days of interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, and seminars. Keynote presentations will be provided by internationally recognized design professionals and design celebrities.
The full range of design disciplines will be represented including video/game design, furniture design, architecture industrial design, textile design, fashion design, interior design, graphic design, and the dozens of other design disciplines.
Through seminars, exhibits and demonstrations, parents will learn about the various advantages and opportunities that exist in the design industry. By doing so, they can become an integral part of their kids’ decision to pursue a career in design.
“Most parents think a career in design is a complete waste of time. It’s important to address the parental issues.”
Paul Rowan, Co-Founder and VP of Design, Umbra.
Deciding upon a college or university program can be a daunting task for high school students. Throughout Canada alone, there are hundreds of options from which to choose. Explore Design is an extremely focused education fair where students will gain hands-on information on the fields of design, meet faculty members, educators and students of the specific programs that they are interested in, as well as attend seminars and presentations given by professionals who have been working in the various design fields. It is our hope that this experience will help them to make a well-informed decision about their post secondary education.
An in-advance registration program will be developed for schools in order to assist in organizing their visit ahead of time. If you would like to receive information about this for your school, please contact Marijke Triemstra at Marijke@mmpicanada.com.
